The Preserve | Sunday Afternoon

Wanda had been studying enough to be fairly confident she could help Jane out with training without causing a disaster on the island. Still, she was going to be as safe about this as possible, putting up a shield around their little area of the preserve not unlike the one she had created around Westview. Only, you know, smaller and not trapping people against their will.

Surely between the two of them they'd be able to handle anything that could go wrong in this scenario. Jane had the power of Thor, and Wanda was the Scarlet Witch; that had to count for something.

[That Wanda and Jane were hanging out in the woods is fine to broadcast, but what they're actually doing is NFB]

"You know, I thought about that," Jane said, continuing that with an upswing of the hammer to toss the crab demon away. "But then you run into copyright issues."

Maybe don't pick classic rock lyrics then, Jane.

"Oh yeah." Wanda definitely had a case against the Crimson Countess in another universe...if she hadn't been killed horribly a couple months ago.

"It too much?" Wanda asked. "I can try to buff him up a bit if you need more of a challenge."

"Let's buff him up a little." Jane, no.

"Let me see what I can do." Messing with already iffy magic? That was Wanda's specialty! The Darkhold was probably very pleased with these proceedings.

The crab demon thing grew larger, and now its shell was armored.

"That... looks a lot scarier," Jane admitted, twirling Mjolnir and having sparks of lightning coming off of it before she threw the hammer at it, only for it to be blocked by the armor and redirected past it into the red barrier.

Wanda...actually hadn't been too sure what would happen during the whole shield versus hammer scenario. Luckily it held and didn't let loose a crab demon on the town.

"Oh thank god."

Maybe ~~the power level necessary for the story~~ Stormbreaker would be different! It was hard to say.

"Okay, this is tougher," Jane admitted, recalling the hammer to her hand. She twirled it again before swinging it without coming anywhere near the crab, but it kinda just felt right.

And that was how she learned that Mjolnir could shatter again, forming little, godly projectiles to shoot through the edges of the crab demon's armor and into the delicious (and still demonic) crab meat therein.

"Oh!"

"Whoa!" Wanda said, eyebrows lifting. "What the hell was that?"

Did we know that was a thing? Thor should have used it before.

"That was new!" Jane promised, pulling the handle closer to yoink those chunks back on out. Which just meant she totally did a murder on that crab demon. Unless it could live through magic shrapnel. Which, you know, a note for future use. "Wow, I didn't not know it could do that."

It also gave Wanda some notes on just how vulnerable to magic those demons could be. You know, just in case she needed that information for future reference.

"How did you do that?" Wanda asked. "That was so cool!"

"It just felt like I should do that," Jane said, looking at the hammer and where it glowed through the cracks in it. "It was shattered when I picked it up. New Asgard made this whole... museum thing where it lay on the ground because they couldn't pick it up."

And apparently Thor couldn't at the time either.

"Magical object only chooses to work for one specific person. That's usually how it goes." Much to the frustration of others, probably. "That's one hell of a surprise you can pull on people with the Mjolnir shrapnel."

"But look at how much we kicked ass here," Jane said, holding up a hand for a high five.

The crab demon's corpse got no high fives.

Wanda high fived Jane back. And then looked over at the demon corpse. "...here's the part I didn't think about."

Disposing of the evidence.

Evidence was such a harsh word for the corpse.

"Maybe if we put it in the water?" Jane suggested. Because these things just got cleaned up by the government or something.

"You don't think that'll disrupt the ecosystem or something?" she asked. "What if the kraken eats it and it ends up with magic powers?"

Wanda. Think about the sentence you just said and how ridiculous it was.

No, no. It made sense! Maybe.

"Is that a thing that can happen? I didn't know magic could do that."

"I'm still pretty new to this whole magic thing," Wanda admitted. "But I have seen a lot of Godzilla movies."

In some universe she could have starred in one with her brother playing her husband. Just throwing it out there.

WANDA, NO. And let's just never think about the Ultimate Marvel universe too. Ever.

"And Godzilla is actually pretty plausible these days," Jane agreed, thinking about that hand just reaching out of the Indian Ocean.

"I can try to make it disappear," she said. "And we just hope I don't send it somewhere else."

"If that doesn't work... maybe lightning?" Wow, guys. Wow. This was pretty grisly.

"We can do both!" Wanda said, eyes lighting up at that suggestion. "You zap it just to, like, really mess it up and I'll make it disappear. That way if it does get sent somewhere no one can use it for evil."

Like, just in case she sent it to Adrian Viedt by accident and give him the squid monster idea.

Look, squid monsters were a classic.

"I can do that!" Jane agreed as some very localized thunder sounded overhead. Which, you know, maybe people thought it was part of the Halloween stuff.

"Yes, good, just let me--" Take several steps back so she didn't get fried along with the crab.

Smart. Yeah, the lightning sometime do what it do.

She hefted the hammer above her head to create a focal point for the thunder before slamming it down on that corpse. Again, it's just the Halloween stuff, folks.
